The official FAQ states that players do not need to save progress manually because the game saves automatically.

The host keeps the save game. To continue where the group stopped, that same host must start the next session before the other players connect.

Manual-save controls, autosave triggers, save slots, cloud synchronization, backup procedures, and filesystem locations are not yet documented here.
