Big Walk's text chat follows the same distance and environmental restrictions as its in-game voice chat.

The official FAQ confirms that the entire game can be played through in-game text chat without using a microphone.

Text is not readable when players are too far apart or separated by soundproof glass. It also works with communication items such as walkie-talkies.

These restrictions make text part of the same gameplay system as voice rather than an unrestricted global chat channel.
